Sustainable Health, Agriculture, Protection & Empowerment (SHAPE) is a development project implemented by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) across four countries (PNG, Vanuatu, Myanmar, Timor-Leste). This project is funded by New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and aims to improve livelihoods, health, and overall well-being in rural communities.
These projects' goals are:

Based in Kimbe, East New Britain (2021-2025)
In PNG, 28 participating communities in rural PNG; and takes an integrated and graduated approach to addressing health, protection, and food/income security opportunities and challenges.
Climate & Disaster Resilience: Train at least 1,500 community members (50% women, 10% PWD) in DRR & CCA, with 80% showing improved preparedness
Food & Income Security: Increase households practicing climate-smart agriculture from 20% to 60%, increasing food production by 30% and cash income by 20%.
Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH): Ensure 90% of targeted households have year-round safe drinking water, 75% improved hygiene, reducing waterborne diseases by 25%.
Gender Equality, Disability & Social: Ensure at least 50% women’s participation & accessibility for PWD, with annual GEDSI audits confirming inclusiveness. Inclusion (GEDSI)
Sustainable Community Leadership: Establish 20 functional community leadership groups (min. 40% women) managing WASH, DRR plans & resources independently.
Based in Lae and Markham, Morobe (2026-onwards)
Connecting, enriching, growing, and transforming together. SHAPE's second project is thematically focused on building stronger, healthier, and more resilient Communities in PNG. A community development initiative supporting underrepresented and underserved communities in PNG to become more resilient, healthy, and self-reliant. We will work closely with the communities/Markham area to build local strengths, address challenges, and promote long-term change.
