The Emergency Management Project focuses on providing timely and effective disaster response by monitoring disasters and collaborating with government agencies, partners, and the SDA church.
Key activities include conducting disaster assessments, procuring and distributing relief items, and attending coordination meetings with UN clusters or government groups to ensure an organised response.
The project (image to the left) also partners with UNICEF to implement education initiatives in emergency settings, addressing the needs of children affected by crises. Post-disaster, the team conducts thorough monitoring and evaluation to improve future response and provides detailed updates to donors. Additionally, the project actively seeks funding to enhance disaster response and nurtures church and community teamwork to strengthen local resilience.
Our livelihood sector implements climate-resilient agro practices, horticulture, aquaculture, disaster risk reduction, and cash crops in communities. Integration of food security, micro finance, supply chain, life-skills, and wellbeing in the sector.
Food security is a key focus to support small-scale agriculture (Introducing back yard gardening, whether vertical, climate change, food security, and implementation of focused support for women to establish farming groups to sustain their families. We work with farmer-based groups to support improved farming methods, quality control systems, supply chain support, market access, and quality of healthy lifestyles through nutrition and food quality. Our livelihood focus is implemented on the premise of adding value to the livelihood of communities to have sustainable livelihoods and improved lifestyles.
The WaSH project focuses on 3 areas
Construction of water points/taps for clean drinking water (Water Supply).
Building ablutions/Latrines toilets and
Water Management of community water supply systems.
The WaSH project is aligned to the Government of PNG's WaSH policy and integrates best practice WaSH schemes for reliable and safe water provision and design and construction of sustainable systems.
The WaSH project has a strong focus on partnership with communities in all phases of the project, from planning, designing, implementation, and management of the system, where a greater duty of care, support, and ownership is reflected in the role of the community.
The WaSH project is funded by bilateral, multilateral, GoPNG, NGOs and private sector partners. The WaSH project also integrates modernized systems that are climate-resilient. The projects' focus on climate change through building climate resilience infrastructure and utilising clean energy has been part of our integration focus across projects to address global climate change targets.
The Treatment & Care component of the HIV Project focuses on working collaboratively with organised groups, the local health care services and management and national organisations for PLHIV in sharing management support of peer workers providing direct support to PLHIV increase access to and utilize HIV testing and counselling services; enhances improving linkages to and retention in HIV care in health care facilities and in home care however adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) treatment and HIV viral load suppression is encouraged. The collaborative response aims to reduce stigma and discrimination associated with HIV infection and empower PLHIV to live healthy and productive lives. The education sector promotes functional literacy outcomes through teacher training, CSO partnerships, and learning programs. The work on literacy includes the roll out of curriculum and teaching materials to partners with resource pack and certification of literacy schools to use the curriculum for learners to obtain writing, reading and comprehension skills to enable them to purse further education, improve their health, increase or create small income generating activities, strengthen their relationship with their God and live in harmony with thy neighbour.
Early childhood learning is an important component of our focus on education with key emphasis of teacher upgrade, improved learning environment, resources for learning and pupil suppor to enhance quality learning outcomes. Peacebuilding interventions are integrated into the education sector to promote peaceful means through education for communities to live in harmony and peace.
This sector cuts across all the ADRA’s projects. Safeguarding/Gender, Disability & Social Inclusion (GEDSI). Effective ADRA’s PNG’s safeguarding policies, plans, and reporting mechanisms guide and address staff code of conduct and behavior.
ADRA PNG's projects aim to empower and provide support to the church leaders to address Abuse, Gender Base Violence (GBV), Sorcery Accusations Related Violence (SARV), and be more Disability Inclusive in the Church and the surrounding communities. Safeguarding interventions are implemented through workshops, resources, certification programs, and policy review. Communities and partners are provided with information and resources to increase community understanding, knowledge, and compliance with safeguarding practices.
